4 Year curriculum plan

Children are provided with a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum that is carefully planned to meet the needs of the individual children.  The School aims to deliver a curriculum that is both stimulating and challenging through a topic work approach.  The School follows the National Curriculum and endorses the North Yorkshire Curriculum Statement.  The curriculum is made relevant to the child’s own experience.

In both classes the work is differentiated to cater for differing abilities. More able children will be stretched to meet their needs and those children with learning difficulties will be supported with appropriate work.

English, Maths, Science and Information Communication Technology (ICT) are given a very high profile as core subjects.  The School actively supports the government literacy and numeracy initiatives.

Teachers use a range of teaching styles to support learning including Brain Gym activities.  Children may be taught in small groups, individually or as a whole class, depending on the tasks involved.

The School also has an online learning platform which can be accessed at:

Religious Education

The Religious Education curriculum will follow the Local Authority’s agreed syllabus, emphasising a Christian approach to life while helping children to understand the religious and cultural diversity of today’s society.

There is a daily Act of Worship.  Visitors are invited to conduct worship.  Parents have the right to withdraw their child from both RE lessons and our daily act of Worship, if they wish, by notifying the Head Teacher in writing.

Personal, Social, Health Education

We deliver the very important areas of Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship through class and school circle times when every child has the opportunity to contribute in discussions and drama. Sex education at Kirkby Fleetham forms a discrete element within the School curriculum.
